Gladstone bag

A Gladstone bag, named after William Ewart Galdstone, was created by J G Beard in the late 19^th Century. It is a bag that was originally designed as a portmanteau suitcase which means that it has two parts for storage but today it is normally produced with flat sides, associating it to a suitcase design.

Normally a Gladstone bag is made in firm leather with a solid frame in the interior, often being deeper in proportion than in length. It also has two smaller handles allowing the wearer to carry them by hand or to rest on the forearm.
