Waistband
A waistband is something that is featured at the top of a garment such as skirts or trousers. The waistband helps to hold the garment in place and allows for a fastening at the top especially on trousers. A waistband also displays the label of the brand of which created the garment.
It is unknown as to when waistbands were first created, however the elastic waistband seemed to be created in the 20th Century. Elasticated waistbands normally do not need a fastening, allowing the wearer to simply pull the garment on.
An elastic waistband has helped to create many garments at present such as leggings, jogging pants and elasticated jeans or trousers. It is also usually used on women’s and men’s underwear.
