Edwardian
Christian Dior SS12 Vivienne Westwood SS12
The Edwardian era refers to a brief period of history under the reign of King Edward I (1901 – 1910). In terms of fashion, the era was important for several reasons, the first reason being that for the first time couturiers in Paris were beginning to gain recognition and the industry of haute couture was on the rise. The silhouette of womenswear moved towards that of a more boyish frame; corsets were altered to make a woman look slimmer and narrower. Gowns featured waistlines that were indefinable in order to make the final silhouette straight, a huge departure from classic designs which were made to emphasise the bust and hips of a woman.
