Spring-Summer 2013 – The unorthodox, unconventional and at times nonsensical house that is Maison Martin Margiela presented what seemed to be a sexier, more grown up and less crazy collection than every before. Bandeau topped dresses, tightly wrapped skirts and black evening clothes were very wearable with fabulous flicked hems. Key styles here were the square cut and strapless pieces, along with drapes, pleats and folds which have been pertinent elsewhere at Paris. Trousers were tight and high at the waist yet fell loosely to the floor. Even so, this was Margiela meaning unique and quirkier styles were pertinent: there were pockets of oversized proportions, a sense of restriction with tight shrugs and a multitude of layers from the neck downwards. Colour-wise it was uncomplicated in nude, grey, white and black; it was more about the form here. Evening dresses were boxy, loose and worn with trousers but more wearable than previous seasons.
