Spring-Summer 2013 – Costa’s collection was highly commercial with a conservative fit and wearable colours. A slick white trouser-suit with a black trim and a black trouser-suit with a white trim were the pinnacle of this – both were a slim-fit with a nipped in waist. Though conservative, it was not conventional and that was clear from the beginning. Dresses cut away at the chest to show disco shaped plated undergarments and peplum shaped tops and jackets added structure. Equally, the liquid sheen of the cloth hinted at the synthetics used, as both tops and skirts had transparent snips. Simple cream dresses knocked at the door of innovation with an overlay of web-like cage layers. The sculpted nature of the clothes created strong shapes. At the same time, there was a papery aesthetic with folds, pleats and unfinished edges; tops took the forms of paper bags. It was a neat way to finish a New York Fashion Week.
