Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – From one extreme to the other – that is from Chanel to Givenchy – we saw a large Couture collection to a small one comprising of just ten pieces. The Givenchy show may have been short but the clothes had the magnitude to show why Givenchy is still a major protagonist in the designer world. The collection seemed to encompass all things natural; embracing mother-nature so to speak. Set in a park, with an idyllic landscape of plush greenery, the tribe-like dress-come-cape had the intimation of an aboriginal robe: the deep red and black patterned die covered the model from head to toe. Each design had its own unique merits and interesting use of colouring, fabrics and textures; that a dog featured with a dip-dyed jumper and leather trouser combo shines light on this. The common denominator were the full-length gowns, whether it be on a structured brown leather and suede dress with intricate detailing around the waist, or a loose plunging black design. There may have been ten garments, but it was a clear case of ‘less is more.’
