La Dolce Vita (1960)
The parallels between fashion and film are unclear. Fashion designers will use film trends to inspire new collections and cinematic costume designers always make sure they are following catwalk trends.
The iconic image in La Dolce Vita is without a doubt the scene in which Anita Eckberg’s character, Sylvia, emerges from the Trevi fountain in Rome in that black dress. It is said that the Balenciaga‘s sack dress that flows like the gown Anita wears, inspired the film. The gown was copied by high streets and designers the world over and so continued the turning cogs of the relationship between fashion and film.
