Spring-Summer 2013 – Thakoon’s light and airy collection was perhaps the epitome of a summers day. Twittering birds and floating butterflies, along with pink blush blossom branches, were trapped within a graphic birdcage printed onto moulded tops and dresses or floatier tops and skirts. The printed and appliquéd avian and floral designs conjured a romantic feel particularly with the white silk dresses that personified the said birdcage with their structured tops and cherry skirts. Separates were particularly prevalent. Knee-length skirts came with pleats or asymmetric hems, while tops took on a stiff shape with high, rounded necklines. Transparency gave layering a new dimension as lace and fishnet jumpers allowed white pleated tennis dresses to be seen underneath. While geometric dresses and jackets were a nod to the ‘60s, the collection was brought up to date with lace skirts and peplum tops and iridescent dresses featured disco sequins and shining floral cutouts.
