Spring-Summer 2013 – Donna Karan has managed a complete role-reversal from her ultra-masculine Autumn-Winter collection. This Spring-Summer saw shimmering silvers, paler shades and folded headbands. The clothes took on a papery appearance as the headbands themselves marked the beginning of many creased, folded and wrapped clothes. Without a doubt, this showed how Karen’s mastery in draped fabric continues to show no limits. Skirts, dresses and jumpsuits ballooned to create cocoon shapes for a fuller silhouette. This became almost parachute-like with billowing asymmetric skirts and heavily pleated dresses. Cropped, structured jackets reined in this fuller frame ensuring a wearable collection working well with both the fuller items and the smart shift dresses. It was a constrained collection yet readily innovative: colours strengthened with gold, mustard and pinks whilst contrasting textures on separates became pertinent. The collection balanced between refined and compelling making a strong statement whilst being very marketable.
