MAKE-UP

BLACK LINER:

As a big fan of black liner myself; it was reassuring to see that this season there was a big hype over it.

Just Cavalli

Black liner needn’t be heavy but if you were to, try thick liner on the top and bottom line of the eye but keep to minimal make-up elsewhere. With eyeliner, attention is drawn directly to the eyes; which is where the main focus should be.

Versace                                                                                                                                              Missoni

Jonathan Saunders emphasizes this with his runway collection whereas others went for a thin line across the bottom lashes which adds a little, delicate frame but is enough to blend with a light touch of make-up elsewhere.

BRONZE MAKE-UP:

A touch of bronze make-up is always a heightened make-up piece for the summer months.

Nina Ricci                                                                                                      Dries van Noten

For a little extra glow; highly bronzed cheekbones are the way forward.

Michael Kors

As Donna Karan shows, contouring around the lower cheeks adds shape to the face where the bronze is statement to the face.

Dior’s main focus was bright and bold and extravagant eye shadow. Golden blend and shaped out further than the eyelid creates shape and structure; this makes more of an outline as eyeliner nor mascara is needed.

Dior

To the other end of the spectrum; Nina Ricci and Michael Kors swayed more towards the ‘less is more’ approach with softer blends of bronze eyeshadow and toned with white as a way of contouring.

NO MAKE-UP LOOK:

A look, which I have always admired; yet have never been brave enough, to attempt is the no make-up look.

 Emilio Pucci                                                                                             Giles

The ‘au natural’ beautiful look is a stunning way in which to look fresh faced. With tousled hair and a killer outfit this look can look incredibly chic.

Balmain                                                                                                         Cristopher Kane

In the footsteps of Balmain, Christopher Kane and Diane Von Furstenberg; light powder and slight bronzer is all that would be considered necessary; highlight features such as eyebrows and lip tint for a sophisticated edge.

HAIR

With the many stunning trends that have appeared on the runway and on our high-streets this season it’s always a little extra something to complete an outfit with the ‘out-there’ and statement hair and make-up that the designers are debuting.

                          Jonathan Saunders

From heavy side partings and mermaid waves for hair to thick black liner and metallic in make-up; there is something for all of us to try out.

DEEP SIDE PARTINGS:

There resembles a masculine trait with side partings, with the illusion of a comb over.

Jil Sander

Designer, Mischka Badgely constructs the art of combining two looks in one; loose waves and a side parting. This helps to frame the facial features; although there is little volume; the weightier side of the parting makes the hair look thicker.

Badgley Mischka

An alternative approach would be to turn the side parting into an up-do; the slightly texturised roots create a sleek and elegant look with a touch of invention.

Missoni

Missoni and Stella McCartney followed with a sleek, low bun; the graceful touch accentuates the side parting.

Stella McCartney                                                                                                               Prada

For a more playful edge; you could opt for sweeping fringe in the direction of the parting; this adds mystery to a look. Prada have also added a headband as extra detailing; not only does it hold the hair in place but it can act as a frame for the hair across the fringe.

SOFT WAVES:

Many of us find that perfecting beautiful curls can be an absolute challenge; and for those of us who want to achieve some sort of curl then loose, mermaid waves are the way forward.

Dsquared2

They can be achieved either through heat tongs or even by wrapping up wet hair into plaits or ties.

For an absolute casual, surfer look; opt for a middle parting so that the curls can be accentuated, equally either side of the face as Alexander Wang demonstrates.

Emilio Pucci

Alternatively, Emilio Pucci prefers the side-parting with a feathery and layered front; this gives the impression of thicker and longer locks. You could also try tucking the hair behind your ears for a bear-faced and 90’s look.

Alexander Wang

Hair either side of the face with the parting covered ads slightly more detail and is a quick fix for a ‘misbehaving hair day.’

Prada

This is similar to Jonathan Saunders’ who created the sleek , straight down look with less volume.

Rebeca Tylor

Rebeca Tylor opposed to this and went for sleek at the top with thick, voluminous curls at the bottom for a show-stopping look.

STRAIGHT HAIR:

Conveniently, if you couldn’t or didn’t want to attempt curls; straight hair is a creative alternative.

Burberry Prorsum

Whether you have long or mid-length hair; stand out with a harsh centre parting and do not be afraid to straighten, straighten, straighten! Much like Burberry and Chloé lead.

Chloé

Donna Karan trades the curls for the straight; still covering the parting with a small strand of hair. The hair falls smoothly around the shoulders with minimal effort yet oozes pure chic.

Danna Karan

Always one to be different; Ralph Lauren mixes up the parting trend by making it slightly off centre; this way you can opt for a different fringe style and play about with both straight and wavy hair.
