Valentino Woman Autumn-Winter 2016 – People say modelling is a bit like dancing and it seems Valentino took this message to heart. Models at the brand became toughen up ballerinas in a collection highly inspired by the dancing world.

Nude and black coloured long-sleeved tops resembling leotards were paired with the majority of outfits ensuring that these vibes were never far from mind but there was nothing sickly sweet about this collection.

By starting the show with long flowy skirts in black, the sense of movement and rhythmic grace of the designs was made edgy from the off and the layering of structured calf-length coats over multiple designs reinforced this sense of sophistication and increased attitude.

There was also something especially grown-up and often very sensual about the collection’s eveningwear, where thin, nearly sheer, floaty dresses in nudes and light colours as well as shiny satin numbers ensured that whilst ballet-wear shapes and silhouettes abounded, the looks appeared elegant and very glamorous.

Particular highlights were the tutu-esque designs, elevated above any normal look by having a punky make-over in leather with metallic square detailing or receiving the glam treatment and being elaborately decorated with small rhinestones; certainly not anything you’d wear at the ballet bar!

The allusion to dance was very clear in the beauty of the show too, with hair pulled back into ballerina-buns. Once again, though, the models were dancers with a rebellious side as a few wispy strands were left to hang at the sides of their faces.
