Thom Browne

Thom Browne Man Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Thom Browne celebrates the craftsmanship that goes into making clothes. This was the primarily focus. The looks were a uniform in the sense that they all contained the same shirt and tie. However, the construction in each was very different. At a quick glance the collection may seem repetitive. However, the time taken to observe the detailing and shapes will make Browne’s concept clear.

It started with grey fitted suits in Harris Tweed, with covered buttons and sleeves reaching the floor. The model wore masks and black lipstick, which added character to the theatrical setting. Leather bags, brogues and spectacles were also observed.

As the show progressed the looks started to display a more 2D form. Each look was cleverly showing different pattern pieces that make up the suit. Whether it was the emphasis on the blazer or the trousers, it was all carried out in a thoughtful way. Eventually, the looks started to resemble paper doll outfits. The viewers can almost imagine themselves arranging the pattern pieces and creating a finished suit.  This is what makes the collection so intriguing and engaging.
