Mary Katrantzou
Autumn-Winter 2014/15 – Despite being recognised for her use of digital prints, in her latest collection Mary Katrantzou chose to discard her former love for something newer and much more AW friendly.
This time around Mary Katrantzou combined an array of different influences including a nod towards the designer’s Grecian roots with ancient Greek inspired symbols. Replacing the dizzying digital prints were patches of embroidery, baroque detail and gold tone metal hearts.
The silhouettes were elegant and flowing with full skirts, varying hem lengths and pleat inserts. The pleats, coincidentally, made up one of the focal points of the collection as they re-appeared throughout on skirts, dresses and swing tops.
Despite the bright bursts of colour provided by the embroidery, the colour palette remained fairly typical to what we’d expect from an AW range, showcasing a fairly standard mixture of blues, blacks, greens and greys.
Whilst the matching tailored suits and series of chic evening wear gave the collection its event-worthy appeal, it was the series of full length, decorated gowns that truly set aside this collection from the rest we’ve seen so far at London Fashion Week. Further adding to the collection’s wow factor was the selection of midnight blues, shimmering metallics and sequin detail.
Going against what we’ve previously seen and come to expect, Mary Katrantzou provided us with a new collection that was, not just glamorous and chic, but personal and intriguing.
