Mary Katrantzou

Autumn – Winter 2013/14

Mary Katrantzou is one of London Fashion Week’s eternal stars and she dazzled with her latest collection. Inspired by the black and white photography of Edward Steichen Mary delivered a series of looks that were beautiful, accomplished and impacting. The collection was filled with pieces emblazoned with blown up photographs, occasionally highlighted with a splash of colour, but mostly black and white. As the models came down the catwalk the effect was like that of wearable art.

Mary has always had a way with structure and she has surpassed herself in this collection, traditional pattern cutting was turned on its head as curved shapes and origami folds were enveloped into maxi length blazers and dresses with razor sharp shoulders. The tempting delicate shine of the clothes added to their appeal and softened the collection, adding an overtly feminine edge.

The designs were daring and bold, it was a very confident yet thoughtful move from Mary, which she pulled off with a chic elegance and grace.
