Autumn-Winter 2011/12 –  The epitome of a successful collection, it was sophisticated to its core with its French culture, but beheld a chic modern attitude that has made YSL, to this day, so current. The shapes that have come to embody style and sophisticated were omnipresent here: cocoon coats and drop waisted tunic dresses were emblazoned with printed chain embellishments or embroidered with real gold chains at the neck and around the waist. Feathers (somewhat of a micro-trend this season) were woven into a bright purple tweed skirt suit. Equally, Prince of Wales checks and tailoring for pleated skirts bore their sophistication with pussy bow necked blouses with trumpet sleeves. YSL provided the perfect work wear with black suits accented with white panels, the tweed that was prevalent throughout also presented smart superiority. Tweed extended through to the daywear with fur embellished tweed playsuits. The trusty Parka was also in the mix along with black trousers that stopped short of the ankle. Patent leather tunics and white silk crepe evening wear were symbolic to the undercurrent of ‘sexy’ translucent within the collection. Great tailoring was integrated with halter necks and pie crust ruffle collared backless dresses whilst accessorises consisted of gold belts and a nod at modernity with wedged, fringed brogues. This collection incorporated so much of what the modern woman needs in her life; YSL was on form.
