Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – With a slight Scottish influence (in the guise of check; a solid trend for the season) the power house that is Prada set the scene for the Autumn/Winter trends. Large checks dominated on thick cashmere princess coats and drop-waisted dresses. Box pleating came thick and fast on black dresses teamed with square toed Mary Janes which were given an innovative tone when embossed with snakeskin sock-like knee high boots. The drop-waisted belts were a crucial accessory for Prada, giving an edge to the plainest of dresses: the snakeskin bags and the fur shawls and thick scarves were also fundamental to the collection, notwithstanding the fur aviator skull caps. Whilst some dresses were intricate in their detailing and pattern, other dresses were kept simple with stiffened shirt dresses in blue or pink. Snakeskin adorned the clothing as well as the boots; a monumental moment was a blue snakeskin pea coat closely followed by more snakeskin pea coats encompassing fur lapels. Smart and forward thinking: nothing we wouldn’t expect from Miuccia Prada.
