Automne/Hiver 2011-12 – The mantra was “la bourgeoise sans age” translated as the ‘ageless bourgeois lady’. Gaultier wanted to depict a style that was mature and ageless for this AW. The models bore grey hair pieces pinned up in a manner that epitomised the aging woman, this was befitting to the maturity of the clothing. Nonetheless, throughout the show the girls peeled off their jackets and subsequently threw them to the audience to evoke a pinch of humour. The staple pieces often seen in Gaultier’s collection were, as always, the order of the day. The classic pinstripes, military jackets and trench coats have become timeless pieces – so fitting for such an ageless collection. The maturity was translucent from the off with roomy, silk jumpsuits covering the skin and wraparound skirts over wide legged trousers. The identification of oversized clothing was pertinent throughout with oversized jackets and A-line leather skirts which hung off the models. Pussy bow silk blouses and rust-coloured cardigans were befitting with kitten heels, while pearl necklaces and classy black gloves showed only too well the bourgeois nature of the collection.
