Mary Katrantzou

Mary Katrantzou Women Spring Summer 2016 – ‘Cosmic Chaos’ was the name of Mary’s show and each of her dresses twinkled like the night sky.

Once considered the queen of the digital print, Katrantzou brought some texture into play using handcrafted embellishments of micro sequins, chain applique, quilting and ruffles. This collection was all about the dresses and they came down the runway in a kaleidoscope of colours and folklore inspired patterns. Blue mascara, bell sleeves and intricate embroidery added to the ‘global traveller in space’ aesthetic. Models wore knitted footless tights with floral buckled boots, a quirky contrast with the girlish skater dresses and Spanish style ruffles. To break up prints, Katrantzou also included some pared back classic pieces such as black flared trousers and side split skirts.

For a designer who has been established for less than a decade, Mary is proving herself as a big hitter with collaborations with retail giants such as Adidas Originals, Topshop and Longchamp already under her belt. After today’s offering, it looks like the sky is the limit.
