Manish Arora Women Spring Summer 2016 –

To watch a Manish Arora show is a bit like imagining you have stepped into a crazy acid trip; he is known for his rich palette of psychedelic colours, kitsch motifs, and the bizarre.

His SS16 collection was an explosion of kaleidoscope colours: pink, orange, purple, and yellow was the main colour palette, and Arora included garments inspired by his Indian background with Jodhpuri style jackets decorated with an opulent tapestry of embroidery. Full skirts with ruffles were in, as was a butterfly motif that featured on patterned tops with batwing sleeves. In fact, sleeves were big news for Arora, who used them in the majority of his designs; whether sheer and flecked with gold, or cuffed with ruffles. The result was completely clashing, hectic, mismatched, and reminiscent of a child’s birthday party, but you cannot help but love the spectacle of Arora’s shows and work and care that has gone in to the pieces.

In the true spirit of Arora’s individuality, make-up went against the subtle palettes and barely-there look that has been flooding Paris Fashion Week, and models were daubed with blue, purple and pink eyeshadow and hair was crimped into frizzy fabulousness. Models peered seductively out beneath headpieces adorned with beads and metal charms, and shoes were, of course, clashing and shiny.

What should be grotesque completely works and looks amazing – hats off to you, Arora, for putting the fun back into fashion.
