Spring-Summer 2013 – Kris Van Assche achieved what he set out to do; create an elegant collection that was classic with a touch of new wave. His focus was navy blue, the perfect colour for the collections ethos, and added an edge of colour with red, taking a little of the elegance out of the blue blazer. The silhouettes were of a gentleman, the shoes a classic brogue with straight trousers and double breasted jackets. The look was a touch regimented and conformist with the models hair waxed in a perfect side parting, a bomber jacket and straight collared coats conveying a military feel. The nylon sportswear was perfectly tailored as well, giving it a distinguished air. Perhaps Karl Lagerfeld said it best when he said ‘If you look to the street all the men are in shorts with big bellies and awful legs’. Van Assche showed a refreshing antidote to this: a graceful, dignified and elegant man.
