Spring-Summer 2013 – Donatella was to create a Pugilist that was “Part Rocky, part Elvis, part Mr. T” but in the year of the hunger games managed to do this in quite a futuristic way. It opened with a sci fi gladiator, complete with championship belt and elaborate gladiator sandals adorned with rubber and studs. The sometimes scantily clad muscle men sported garish and glam versions of sportswear, metallic boxing boots, floral leisure suits and pink sleeveless leather suit jackets. In the year of the London 2012 Olympics, sporting is on people’s minds and this collection did nothing to change that. It was fun, free and without judgment, something that Donatella Versace always tends to champion.
