Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – Alber Elbaz and his menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver wanted to create individual characters and materials in contrast to last year’s military, uniform style. Their focus was on fabrics, silicone treatments, neoprene inserts and laminated fabrics and they wanted the collection to be not only modern, but relevant. The suit was obligatory; you would have to be a very oblivious designer to ignore that this season, but was made sportier with high top trainers, jersey leggings and puffa rain jackets. The large rounded shoulders had suggestions of power, making the models look stockier and therefore more threatening. There were nods to the seventies with bootleg and high waisted trousers and suits in powder blue, but made relevant, teaming them with small square briefcases fit for a laptop or I-pad.  A definite funkier take on the classic suit and a collection the modern man can relate to.
