Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – The perfection of Italian tailoring was what Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli portrayed in their AW2012 collection. These suits with their slim trousers worn with sockless shoes and skinny ties were that of the elite 1960s gentleman, the one to whom couture mattered, focussing on a decade in which Valentino became the designer on everyone’s lips. Leather gloves gave the look even more elegance and a caped jacket in wool or velvet draped over a perfect suit was the dress of a dapper man. They wanted to stay true to the original Valentino DNA, elegant and luxurious couture. “Memory is very important to innovate,” said Piccioli. “We wanted the same language in a different moment: the sharpness of shape, the belief in workmanship. We wanted to sculpt lightness.”
