Autumn-Winter 2012/13 – Dolce & Gabbana decorated their AW 2012 show like an opulent Italian Opera Circa 1930 with Pavarotti bounding out over the red velvet drapery, vintage chandeliers and haphazard, dust sheet covered antique furniture. “We didn’t look at a book or a movie for inspiration,” said Gabbana. “It was all about family.” They pulled their inspiration from their Italian family archives, showing capes and lavish gold embroidery and tassels on trenches and suit jackets, quilting and velvet. They mixed old and new with modern touches like jeans and T-shirts printed with images of an old opera house and thick knit jumpers. They mixed classes, showing the glamour of aristocracy and the working class dress of tweed and flat caps. It was a perfect harmony of vintage Italian dress.
