Viktor & Rolf

Spring-Summer 2014 – Another fashion house to embrace a clear theme this season were duo Viktor and Rolf with their ballet inspired Haute Couture collection.

Similar to the dance form of ballet, this collection embodied proficiency, grace and refinement. The tailoring and shapes, which were inspired by leotards and other elements often associated with ballet costumes, consisted mainly of sweetheart necklines, asymmetrical hems and sweet skater skirts.

Romantic hues of dreamy nudes, pastel pinks and crisp whites made up the colour palette of the collection. However, occasionally black crept its way in through the rockabilly/tattoo style bow, ribbon and swallow print. The images of butterflies, ribbons and bows added a further romantic and feminine quality to the collection.

Quite like their last Haute Couture collection, this collection felt much more like a performance than a runway show. With poised models, chalky skin and ballet slippers, Viktor and Rolf transported us to the Opéra national de Paris for a performance unlike any other we’ve seen this season.
