Ending the evening in true Margiela fashion, the label showed it’s first collection as members of Couture fashion week. The show was an intriguing mix of looks, opening with a signature style of a structured jacket dress with unfinished hem, all models were encased in a beaded headdress that obscured the face and stomping platform boots painted white, artfully scuffed and worn. Floor length gowns featured floral motifs overlaid with hazy black chiffon, a slinky patterned red velvet and most prominently intricate beaded embroidery that was reminiscent of the flapper dress style of the 1920s although with unlikely detail, a zip here, a trench coat collar there. Closing the show were extravagant sparkling strapless and off the shoulder dresses, that were jewel like from afar, but look closer and the expensive allure was more akin to crumpled sweet packets. A wonderful debut into the world of couture, Margiela maintained their inimitable aesthetic whilst exhibiting great craftsmanship.
