Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – The magical veneer of Chanel was translucent from the word go when the models cascaded down the catwalk on a glittering pavement and an obelisk Chanel statue in the centre. At nightfall the catwalk took place, and so the show began with Lagerfeld traditional Chanel suits, only this time with broad shoulders offset by slim waists: the suits came in white, navy, magenta and black. The prim sensibilities of the collection were evident in the long sleeves and midi lengths of the skirts. Equally, the over-the-knee boots that were worn with the clothing were very mature, as were the boater hats worn on the back of the models heads. Notable was the lack of flesh, although jackets stopped just above the elbows, black leather sleeves – in tune with the boots – covered the forearms down the hands. The only detailing in the collection was the button’s that plunged. The eveningwear: layered with cropped jackets over tunics over skirts. The collection was smart, sophisticated and somewhat simple.
