Gucci Women Spring Summer 2016

 

Feminine frills define many of the looks on the Gucci catwalk this season. But frilled or not, this season was filled with bright colors and a different pattern for nearly every look. Many of the themes Alessandro Michele brought into last season, his first as creative director for Gucci, were present again here, including the revealing sheer dresses and blouses, flower and bird appliques, loads of antique-looking jewelry, and chunky glasses.

Though there were several menswear looks mixed in, this collection was incredibly feminine. Ruffles abounded along the hemlines and bodices of sheer dresses, and bright floral prints pervaded a majority of the pieces. Silk flowers, botanical appliques and bows all added detail to the looks. An unmistakably seventies feeling was present throughout, from the busy prints to the high collars and prairie skirts. Several pieces featured pop-art like designs, drawn on frills rather than the frills themselves, giving a cartoonish feeling to a few looks.

Finger gloves and chunky rings accessorized several looks, accompanied by leather loafers or platform t-strap heels. Thin scarves tied in bows were common, as were strings and ribbons tied in bows under high, buttoned collars. Several models clutched rectangular leather bags, another carryover from the previous season.
