Club Monaco

Club Monaco Woman Spring Summer 2017 – Club Monaco presented its first New York Fashion Week show this season, a shoppable collection of fall looks available online and in certain North American stores. Promoted as a lifestyle brand, the Ralph Lauren-owned label carries the refined elegance one expects from the Ralph Lauren label, with a trendier twist.

Cropped knit tanks, and blouses and sweaters with ruffled-elbows lend themselves to this trendier feel, though the deft layering reminds the viewer of a Banana Republic or J. Crew collection. Deep plum and maritime navy alternate with plush camel and pale pinks, while floral prints and textural stripes draw the gaze.

Feminine pieces with ruffles, floral patterning and delicate blousing meet more structured, angular jackets and slacks. Wide-legged, cropped pants and three-strapped heels define the collection, meeting ruffled details and belted waists. Shearling coats were layered over several looks, along with militaristic coats and tailored blazers. Velvet, cashmere, and silk substitutes give a luxurious feel to the collection, while ribbed knits and wool blends create a comfortably seasonal feeling. Mock-turtle collars peek from beneath wool sweaters, while pleated trousers ground a flighty floral dress.

Of the 39 looks presented this week, 13 were from the menswear collection, the new menswear designer Matthew Millward’s first for the brand. Turtleneck sweaters, chunky cardigans, and militaristic coats exemplified this portion of the show. Quilted vests, wool trousers and corduroy pants brought a classic theme to the looks, while details like drawstring sweatpants, low-top sneakers and knot accessories brought a trendy feeling to the collection.

Throughout both the mens and womenswear collections, classic pieces with trendy details gave the collection an overall feeling of safety, offering pieces or looks that could move from the office to dinner to a cocktail party with ease, and at least one look that spoke to a need for casual comfort in a relaxed moment.
