Céline Women Spring Summer 2016 –

Phoebe Philo’s work at Céline has long been hailed as epitomising Parisian chic, and her SS16 collection is no exception.  She embraced the sheer trend that has been everywhere at Paris Fashion Week, in the form of lace, using this as the key detailing of her collection: Black and accenting feminine slips of tops and dresses at the breasts and chest and around the bottom of the garments.

Her smart tailoring had elegant lines and was created in a subtle colour palette of beige and monochrome.  Her elegant dresses hung loosely on the models and fell in fine pleats, finishing at mid-calf length, the skirts moving naturally with each stride.  More structural pieces were in the form of tops and dresses with puffed out sleeves, creating a powerful silhouette, and she used a biege and black tartan pattern to construct suit jackets and trousers.  Pointed flat court shoes and miniature handbags rounded off each look with an air of sophistication, and models were sent down the catwalk with their hair scraped back off their faces, giving focus to their dangling earrings.  Make up was simple; black eyeliner and red lipstick.  Philo’s vision of the Céline woman is one of empowerment and classiness.
