Burberry

Burberry Women Spring Summer 2016 – Alison Moyet serenaded the crowd along with a full orchestra in the purpose built show space for Burberry Prorsum. Christopher Bailey introduced his latest collection with a mixture of womenswear and menswear named ‘Functionregalia’.

A monochrome focused collection with military flourishes marched in with utilitarian touches and details of gold braiding and regimental embroidery. This was in stark contrast to the flirty sheer lace pieces in pale yellow and mint and intricate macramé dresses in gold. Trench coats and capes were paired with delicate silk slip dresses for spring layering. Models sported either a dark berry or completely nude lip with cage heels. Standout pieces included a dusky pink macramé skater dress and a tailored leather jacket with gold edging.

Nylon monogrammed backpacks will appeal to the younger market, most likely to be a repeat of winters sell out monogrammed capes. These customers also received a preview of the collection the night before on Snapchat, a first for the luxury brand.

Bailey is taking Burberry in a new direction, injecting some youthfulness and excitement into the classic brand.
