Burberry Woman Austumn-Winter 2016 – see now buy now – The Spring Summer 2017 collection brought with it the opportunity to revolutionise the brand. Burberry took the occasion to display their first, highly awaited ‘See Now Buy Now’ collection. This is part of the conscious decision to drive progress and make Burberry’s clothing more accessible for customers.
Even with the ground-breaking ‘See Now Buy Now’ aspect the clothes were still very desirable. The collection was a compilation of wearable pieces that will be easily styled. Pyjama-like trousers were designed in silk, oversized and with patterns of paisley and stripes of red and blue or maroon and white. These were paired with similar striped pyjama blouses and grey cape-like jackets, with bell sleeves and military style fastenings.
Oversized knit jumpers were worn with floral knee length skirts, studded leather belts and lace up leather heels. Paisley prints appeared on fitted trousers and mini dresses. Velvet jackets were paired with white shirts with ruffled necklines and sleeves. Coats were commonly kept short in military style or long and dressing gown like. Chunky knitwear, with neck ruffles and puffed sleeves, was layered over square patterned shirts and straight-leg circular patterned trousers.
Layering was a key element of the collection. Leather belts were fastened over coats, shirts and blouses. Shearling and dark leather jackets were worn over ruffled white shirts and striped blouses. Short military style jackets were secured by belts and fastened over a paisley print dressing gown or kimono style jacket and a floral pajama style shirt.
The finished product was a catwalk that referenced English history, inspired by Virginia Wolf’s novel Orlando, with military undertones and oversized shirts and trousers. Layering meant there was a clash of patterns and colours, yet the blue tones, greys and also bright reds and oranges worked amazingly together. Each of the female models had a leather handbag to complete their look, and both male and female models had leather belts for accessories.
