Ann Demeulemeester

Ann Demeulemeester Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Proving once again to be a formidable force in the realm of simple layering, Ann Demeulemeester showed an edgy and romantic collection full of whimsical delight.

Lace headwear structured almost like a veil gave a quasi-matrimonial feel, kept in place by a soft velvet bow or subtle chiffon ties which exhibited a sense of freedom and desire. Sheer, floating dresses imparted a tone of fantasy, with a sewed tiering effect upon a tender drape dress furnishing an austere collection. Playing with pastels added to this nuptial elegance, with slightly belled sleeves and coats in full plumage offering drama to an otherwise graceful display. Bold burgundy lips added to this romance, whilst simultaneously giving an almost theatrical twist.

Darker, more gothic tropes then came into play through a loose hanging and plunging top which was allowed to hang over a baggy and elongated pant, contrasted with a jet-black glove laced to the elbow; the softness of the blue silk set in opposition to the bulky black material of the trouser.
