Paris men's fashion week: names to keep in mind

While there are no newcomers to this edition of Paris fashion week, there are certainly a few talented young designers and labels likely to claim more of the limelight over the coming years. Some of them even seem poised to become the next Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Saint Laurent or Lanvin.
This is the case namely of Officine Générale and Umit Benan, two labels that first entered the official men’s fashion week schedule in January 2014.
Founded in January 2012 by Pierre Mahéo, Officine Générale is constantly playing up contrasts, artfully combining more traditional tailoring with workwear and military-influenced styles, all while using high-end fabrics such as poplin and chambray. With around 60 sales points worldwide, mainly in France and the US, the label is undeniably popular and continues to expand.
Another designer fond of contrasts, Umit Benan founded his eponymous label in 2009 and has since earned unanimous praise. Capable of proving that sportswear and refined style can go hand in hand, Umit Benan also stands out for his original use of luxurious materials. His is another young label that is already beginning to emerge as an essential player on the French fashion scene.
The two brands will present their new collections on Sunday, January 25 at 10:00am and 5:00pm respectively.
Cifonelli in the spotlight
Sometimes the leap from bespoke tailoring to ready-to-wear isn’t such a daunting one. That’s what the men’s couture house Cifonelli will prove this year when it presents within the official schedule for the first time. While the luxury brand already presented a ready-to-wear capsule collection last June, its first complete ready-to-wear line will debut this week, marking a turning point in Cifonelli history.
All eyes will be on the Club de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris on Sunday, January 25 at 3:00pm, where this particularly high-end apparel collection will be revealed.
Longtime fashion fans may notice a few absences from this season’s official schedule, including Tillmann Lauterbach, who was on the provisional schedule for weeks but canceled at the last minute. Carven and John Galliano are also missing, though the former label will present its latest pieces upon appointment.
