Two for the Road (1967)

Audrey Hepburn‘s outfits in Two for the road certainly made a statement. The clothes were not designed for the film but bought off the rack and styled particularly for Audrey’s character, because her usual designs (typically by Givenchy) were too extravagant and glamorous for the housewife she was playing.

Nonetheless, the clothes still came from designers such as Paco Rabanne, Mary Quant and Cacharel, and were nothing short of couture. Her bold wardrobe consisted of psychedelic jersey dresses, cutting edge block colours and a metallic dress that consisted of coin sized pieces joined together by small bits of chain. It was very far from the outfits of any housewive I’ve ever seen.
