The seven year itch gave us to this day one of the most iconic images of our time. Marilyn Monroe in The White Dress.Every jaw hit the floor and every person labelled her a hussy. This was not the way respectable women behaved or dressed in the 1950s.

Monroe’s portrayal of “the other woman” ensured this was an important milestone in the development of women’s attitude towards clothes and style. Suddenly, women wanted to feel sexier and this reflected in their clothes.

From the covered up skirts suits and long sleeved shirts women moved to sexier low cut dresses initially based around the white dress and eventually moving into the “free love” attitude of the 60s.
