Bonnie Cashin, the costume designer for this film, brought about a more demure, casual style in Gene Tierny’s outfits. In an era where leading ladies were being dressed in Hollywood Glitz and Glam, this film had remarkably little of that yet still maintained the actresses sexiness.
The tailoring was looser and less figure hugging, and some of the outfits leaned towards sportswear, a signature style for Bonnie Cashin. She featured some thick knit jumpers, and t-shirts with button down on the back and although these were teamed with structured skirts they had more of a casual masculinity to what would normally be worn by the women of the time.
Some of the hats bore floppy brims where there was normally rigid structure and she wore loose fitting trenches and box shouldered jackets.
