Auntie Mame (1958)

It is a difficult task to find a fashion trend for which you cant reference Auntie Mame. Her bohemian elegance sees her wearing evening dresses and sequined ensembles around the house and her carefree spirit which allows her home to be a constant stream of party is reflected in the way she dresses.

John Galliano’s 2009 collection saw inspiration from Rosalind Russell’s character and Tom Ford’s A Single Man definitely has nod to her as well through Julianne Moore’s character Charlie. She championed the underwear as outerwear look and sashayed around the house with her silk robes billowing behind her, drenched in sparkle and firmly attached to a long cigarette holder which she never lifts to her mouth. Her ease and confidence are infectious and she is the Auntie everyone wishes for.
