Style icons are not just picked out of the sky, they are born from a well played character, a person others aspire to be, someone who appeals to ones desires.  And God Created Women, perfectly titled as this may as well have been the day god created women, gave us Bridgette Bardot in all her glory.

Bardot exuded sexuality, and although the men in her life found this difficult to bear, women of the 1950s were craving such independence and freeness. The image of her in a bikini gave rise to the two piece and consequently it started becoming more acceptable. Sexuality was something the women wanted and the men hated to love.
