Velour

Velour fabric is a term used to describe any fabric with a short, dense pile on one side. These fabrics can be made of various fibres such as wool, linen, cotton, mohair, silk, viscose, synthetic fibres and blends. Velour is generally knitted, so that it stretches and it is similar to velvet, but with a thicker pile. These two fabrics are easily confused. Originally, velour was a woollen or worsted fabric, made to imitate velvet. It is a soft fabric, with a lustrous pile and is used mainly in women’s wear, especially tracksuits, leisurewear, dresses and tops. Velour literally means ‘Velvet’ and is an old French word.
