Sacking

Sacking fabric is a rough fabric which is usually unbleached. It is similar to Burlap fabric and is a heavyweight fabric. Sacking fabric is usually made from natural fibres such as jute, hemp flax, and cotton or similar and can be blended with animal hair. Traditionally, Sacking fabric was produced to make sacks from, however it was used for garments. These garments were rough and scratchy and were frequently used for mourning, but this fabric is rarely used in garment manufacture today. The term ‘Sacking’ comes from the fabrics primary use of making sacks.
