Osnaburg

Osnaburg fabric is a coarse fabric. It was originally made from 100% flax yarns, but then moved on to using either flax, tow or jute yarns, either blended together or used separately. This fabric comes in a variety of weights and qualities with the finer fabrics being used as sheeting. Osnaburg fabric was woven in the 1700’s in Scotland and was developed purely to imitate an existing German fabric. The fabrics name is derived from the city of Osnabruck, in Germany where a lot of the fabric was imported from. It is very similar to Calico and is usually available un-dyed.
