Maya

Maya refers to the ancient Maya civilisation, a South-American civilisation famous for its art and architecture. In terms of its influence on modern fashion, many of the Aztec prints that are replicated on catwalks and high streets can be traced back to the textiles of the Maya civilisation. In ancient times women had only fibre and cotton to work with, so they would often dye the cotton and weave elaborate patterns to be worn as a dress (the traditional Mayanhuipil). Moccasins also originate from Maya civilisation, and many weaving techniques that are often used by modern designers were first used by the Mayans.
