Lisle

Lisle fabric is a fine, lustrous fabric made from lisle yarn. This yarn is very strong and hard-twisted, meaning that it has a high twists per yarn level, making the yarn stronger and able to withstand tension. It is made from long staple cotton fibres, usually mercerised to achieve a smooth finish. Lisle fabric is usually knitted, and was once used extensively in hosiery, gloves and underwear. This fabric was named after the city of Lille (formally Lisle) in Northern France.
