Georgette

Georgette fabric is a plain weave crepe fabric. It is sheer, lightweight and durable. It can also be strong and absorbent meaning that it dyes well. Georgette can be made from silk, wool, viscose or synthetic fibres. Like most crepe fabrics, it is woven with twisted yarns to make a crinkly surface texture. Georgette has a dull finish and it can be used for blouses, dresses, eveningwear and trimmings. Georgette is named after the late 19th Century Parisian dressmaker, Georgette de le Plante.
