Faille

Faille fabric is a soft, lightweight fabric. It is constructed using a plain weave. It has a slightly glossy finish with pronounced, partly flattened cross wise ribs. It was originally made entirely from silk, but more recently cotton is used. Wool, synthetic fibres and other blends of these can also be used. Faille is a popular fabric for formalwear and is often used for suits, jackets, ties, facings, dresses and shoes. The term Faille comes from the French language meaning cloth head covering, worn by women in Flanders, as these were originally made of faille.
