Ecarlate

Ecarlate fabric is a fine fabric made from wool. It is usually dyed Scarlet as the word ‘Ecarlate’ is French and literally translates as ‘Scarlet.’ It was used by nobles because of the striking colour of the dye used. Vibrant dyes were used in the clothes of the royals to create a contrast between them and the lower classes of people.  The term ‘Ecarlate’ also refers to a 14th century high quality silk fabric.
