Chamois

Chamois is a soft leather fabric, made from the skin of the Chamois, which is a goat-like animal. This animal inhabits mountainous areas, in Europe and Western Asia. Traditionally this was the definition of the Chamois fabric, nowadays however the term ‘Chamois’ refers to any leather from other similar animals that have been dressed with oil and finished so as to resemble suede. Chamois fabric is very strong, pliable and absorbent. It is generally used for gloves and other similar end purposes. Chamois cloth is an imitation of true ‘Chamois’ fabric, manufactured by being knitted or woven from cotton and given a slight nap.
