Antique Satin

Antique Satin is a heavy dull faced satin fabric. It is woven using a plain weave and is usually woven using warp and weft threads of different thicknesses. This gives the end fabric a textured feel and makes one side of the fabric feel smooth and shiny and the other much rougher and dull. Typically, it used to be woven exclusively of silk but now it can be made of many different blends, such as cotton or man-made fibres, making it more cost effective.  Can also be woven using slub yarns (meaning that the yarns are of varying thickness and uneven) giving the end fabric a ‘raw’ silk look. It is primarily used for dresses.
