To Catch a Thief (1955)

The French Riviera, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant; Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief was bound to be aesthetically beautiful and Edith Head didn’t disappoint. As Grace Kelly’s last performance as an actress before she became Princess of Monaco, she blew the audience away with her tan skin, immaculate golden hair and elegant “graceful” wardrobe. The flowing drapery of her dresses, the pale blue silk, the white strapless, and even the day dresses are the picture of glamour. The beachwear is over the top and perfect for Riviera charm. Edith Head provides a spectacle at the 18^th century costume party and amongst all the gorgeous bejeweled dresses Kelly is adorned in an abundant gold dress, which is so big that it is jokingly mentioned in the film as delaying her return to Cary Grant as it took a while to squeeze her into the car.
